B.Arch

Periyar School of Architecture offers a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) programme, aimed at imparting contemporary architectural education. The 5 year (10 sememster) programme, affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, is structured to promote original thinking and unleash the imaginative potential of young minds. By the end of the programme, students would be equipped with the necessary skills to design, build and transform the human habitat.

The programme is also designed to meet the guidelines of the Council of Architecture for B.Arch. - the degree that meets the eligibility criteria for registration with the COA as an "Architect". The Academic semester shall be devoted to 16 weeks of instruction/ Teaching (including class test) work. The Academic Calendar shall be notified by the University each year, before the start of the academic year. The maximum period required for completion of the programme shall be n+2 i. e. 7 years.

The design philosophy of Periyar School of Architecture is derived from the definition of Sustainable Development - environmental, economic, and social development over generations. With an emphasis on 'Green technologies' and eco-friendly ways of developing the built environment, the School strives to focus on urban regions - the engines of economic development while highlighting cultural overtures of architecture and its role in defining the grammar of the built environment.

Eligibility criteria

  • Passed 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with at least 45% aggregate marks or passed 10+3 Diploma Examination with Mathematics as compulsory subject with at least 45% marks in aggregate. (With reference to the notice by Council of Architecture, Ref. No. CA/5/2023/Academic/Circular-Eligibility, dated July 19, 2023).
  • All candidates possessing any of the above qualifications must also have passed the National Aptitude Test of Architecture (NATA) - 2023 conducted by the Council of Architecture.

Professor of Architecture & Head of the School

An alumnus of School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi (B.Arch 1981) and Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok (M Sc Human Settlements Development 1987). Sh Kamal Raj brings with him nearly 40 years of experience of Architectural practice (Kamal Raj Architects), specializing in integrated multi disciplinary corporate interiors and design management. A fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects, Sh Kamal Raj has been a visiting Professor at School of Planning and Architecture for over a decade and is known for his unique style of making students develop their sense of visualization of a context.

FAQ's

Appearing in second test is not mandatory and is purely at the discretion of the applicants. Candidates can register themselves either for first test or the second or both by filling in the application form appropriately. Candidates opting to appear in both the first and second test may note that they will be issued with the separate scorecard for each test. The scorecard for Second test shall contain the marks secured in First & Second Test and also the best marks secured in either of the Tests as valid score for admission to B.Arch. Course.

Either JEE Main paper-2 or NATA is compulsory for admission to B.Arch programme throughout the country.
Candidate shall have passed the qualifying examination 10+2 scheme of examination with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and 50% marks in aggregate of the 10+2 level examination. a. OR 10+3 Diploma Examination with Mathematics as a compulsory subject, with at least 50% marks in aggregate. In addition to the above, the candidate needs to qualify an Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by the Council of Architecture or by the competent authority of the Central Government or the respective State Government.
National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) www.nata.in is conducted by the Council of Architecture. The National Aptitude Test is required for admission to 1st year of 5 year B.Arch. degree course at all institutes/ schools/colleges of Architecture in India (including Govt., Govt.- aided, Private Unaided, University/Depts., Deemed Universities, etc.), for Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. NATA measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability that have been acquired over a period of time and that are related to architecture.
The competitive world of infrastructure encompasses works including spatial design, aesthetics, safety management, material management, and several others. Architect firms, consultancies, government organizations have several positions open at all times for such positions. Some public and government organizations that offer jobs for architects are Archaeological Department, Central and State Public Work Departments, City Development Authorities, Department of Railways, Housing and Urban Development Corporation, Housing Development Corporations, Ministry of Defense, Municipalities, National Building Organization, National Institutes of Urban Affairs and Housing, Public Works Department, State Housing Boards.
